Miss_Crepsley watches LOST episode 9 (and I'll aim for 10 this week too)

I have nothing to say except SAYID IS BAAAAAAAAAAACK! And I'm cross at the writers for tearing everyone apart (again) without giving me a reason for it (again) and am very, very curious about Ben. And Locke. So what else is new?

This week we'll be finishing up The Farthest Shore

Is there any interest in starting the fourth book, Tehanu, next week? It was written significantly later than the other books (2000) and may be different. David Watches Battlestar Galactica

As of my last post, I had finished Season 2 Episode 7: "Home". I'm not going to be posting after every episode anymore. I will definitely be posting after multi-parters, season premiers, and season finales, and I may decide to post after others if there's something I particularly want to say. If there are any that I should definitely do, just let me know the episode number. I will still be finishing the series.

Babylon 5

Wherein we discover that Plans 1-8 consisted of building and destroying Babylons 1-4.

I'm moving this weekend so I probably won't have a new pot up until Monday. I'm just sticking this here now so I'm not lost on page 11 or whatever.

spectralbovine does not read Inkdeath

I'm a completist, and I hate not finishing things, but after the promise of Inkheart, Inkspell was a very different sort of book, and I'm not interested in reading the rest of that story (seriously, I read the Wikipedia entry for Inkdeath and I know I won't enjoy it). Which is really sad because Inkheart was fun!

So I'm taking audiobook suggestions! I was going to read Starship Troopers to prepare for Old Man's War eventually, but it's checked out, and I was going to read Halting State to prepare for Rule 34 eventually, but I wouldn't be able to get it on Monday (and maybe I'll wait). Probably I will just see what they have on the shelves and grab something. But I want something enjoyable! And fairly short, so I can read those other two books after it.

spectralbovine and Pica Scribit watch Neverwhere

I read the book so long ago that I barely remember anything about it, so I thought it would be fun to liveblog my reactions to plot twists I already knew and spotting actors I wouldn't have known back then anyway.

I don't know if anyone will watch along, but we'll be starting soonish!

Hey MoElskerDeg! I bet you think you're sooo clever, slapping Community quotes onto Princess Tutu images! Well, two can play at that game!

Threerings enters a Costuming Competition

So I'm just all flail-y and want to just point to this, so I'm gonna. I entered a fairly prestigious costuming competition. I worked incredibly hard for months, and this was definitely the hardest thing I've ever made. I'm ridiculously proud of it.

They just posted all the entries, so I get to see my competition for the first time. And there is some very stiff competition. One the one hand, I don't know that I have a chance of placing in the top three, but on the other hand, "Look at me I iz a real costumer and shit."

Here are the costume competition entries. Mine is the Steampunk Cleopatra under my real name: Kim Ryser.

I also entered the corset portion of my outfit in the sister corset competition. I nearly didn't enter it, but I think I might actually have a better chance in that one? Who knows. Some gorgeous stuff here as well, though.

Since everyone else got to talking about their scars yesterday, I'll join in:

When I was eight years old, I was shoveling the driveway with my friend from down the street, when someone zigged when they should have zagged and his shovel split my forehead open. I was a very difficult patient and had to be put in a papoose, and the legacy is a diagonal line right in the middle of my forehead. I was rocking this look long before Harry Potter, dammit!

In high school architecture class, I was making a model of the house I'd designed when my xacto knife got stuck in a bit of glue. An unwise choice of where to put my other hand while trying to get it out resulted in it cutting a flap open in a knuckle of my index finger when it burst free. It isn't visible with the finger straight, but turns white when I bend it, a neat little party trick.

Right, starting off the post of shallowness now so I can find it without too much difficulty. If anyone can think of a name I'd be grateful as my mind's drawing a blank.

YOU GUYS

"So basically this guy that I go to school with had to do a video about this academy called the CTE Academy, which is ridiculously far from our own and takes up three class periods, with you only earning one credit. He was told to make a video to promote this academy.
He made this."

So thanks to a Cracked article I JUST learned that beta blockers are used off-label to treat anxiety. I've been on beta blockers since I was 23 for high blood pressure, and I used to have really bad social anxiety, but I overcame it AROUND THAT SAME TIME.

Mind Blown. I've apparently been successfully treating my anxiety with medication for 10 years and I DIDN'T KNOW IT.

Steven Watches 200 Movies for the First Time! Week 2

This week I'm watching my final silent film and my first talkie from the years 1928 - 1931:

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1938) - It's about Joan of Arc... obviously. And it's silent and french. hassibah gets the credit for the recommendation. I should be watching this on Friday.
M (1931) - Another film I know more by name than anything else. Spectralbovine gets the credit for recommending it. I should be watching this on Saturday.

I'm posting this early purely so that if anyone wants to watch along with me they'll have a heads up. If no one does that's cool too. I'll have the schedule for the next 3 weeks after this in the reply.

I have an X-Files question
5 replies · active 646 weeks ago
Since my last post was so late, I figured I would get a good start and do this week's early, and give everyone plenty of time to comment!

This week on RANDOM QUESTION...

You can invite five fictional characters to dinner. Who would they be and why?

Mine:

Luna Lovegood, because any conversation with her is bound to be great. And having someone around who can do magic isn't a bad idea.
Winry Rockbell. She could bake pie, and it would plain just be nice to talk with her, because she is so awesome.
Anya Jenkins. Her and Luna would likely get along rather well, though I might creep her out by hanging on her every (brilliant) word.
Michonne, from the Walking Dead. For one thing, she could use a nice meal, and for another, she could also use a peaceful day where people aren't trying to kill her. I'll let her keep her sword at the table and everything.
Bolin, from The Legend of Korra. He'd be so much fun to have around, and it would be good for the boy to get out and have a good time with friends of his own. :)
