Well, *MY* mind exploded. But really want I want to do right now is squee over the fact that two of my favorite shows are crossing streams- Doctor Who and Hugh Bonneville from Downton Abbey? SHUT THE FRONT DOOR.

I'm loving the music in the 'The Curse of the Black Spot' prequel. Why are you so far away series 6 soundtrack?

I probably won't have a review done (damn you education) but I will try and get to the comments to flail with everybody.

So I was watching The Five Doctors the other day - one of the few Classic Who episodes I've seen. And I noticed what I thought was a cute little pop-culture reference when one of the other companions introduced herself to Sarah Jane Smith:

"Tegan."
"Sarah."
*handshake ensues*

Oh, I thought, they're shouting out to this band. Then I did a double-take, because the band's first release was in 1999, and The Five Doctors aired in 1983! Apparently the Doctor took a trip back from the present day to 1983 and suggested a little pop culture reference to the writers that nobody would get for twenty years...

My mind exploded and this prequel is making me excited about that episode, in spite of the writer. I also passed my exams, so it is a good day all around! \o/

Oh man. I don't want to start ship wars, you all know how I hate that stuff... but I can't help but be vastly amused by comments I'm seeing about River/Eleven, like Karen's re: there being a power imbalance there. And there wasn't between Ten and Rose??? IMO there will always be something of one between the Doctor and anyone that isn't a Time Lord... but it feels like so much less of one with someone like River or Jack, so that's why I'm okay with liking River/Eleven and Jack/Nine but feel vaguely squicked by the idea of the Doctor hooking up with a teenage girl. (Which is why the Buffy/Angel thing was always pretty weird for me on that show. Especially after learning about the start, EW!)

I was thinking about what The River Song Show could look like, and that made me think of the Sarah Jane Adventures, where SJS has sonic lipstick. And that shit pisses me off cause really, lipstick? But I was thinking that could actually be pretty awesome for River Song. Where she can apply lipstick then without looking, shoot it over her shoulder at the baddie behind her. Like a boss. (And you can bet she wouldn't even need a mirror to apply the lipstick because she's just that in control of her sexuality and presentation.)

I've been wondering why Ten being "dark" annoyed me so much when I have no problem with the Silence resolution to this ep and Eleven going to a dark place. And honestly, I think it's mostly because Ten was the only one who really had all that self-righteousness going on (from the very start in Christmas Invasion and the whole no second chances but then goes all moralistic on Harriet Jones).

It's not that the Doctor can't be genocidal, I just got annoyed with Ten's hypocrisy, I think. (EDIT: not that I think this ep shows a genocidal version of him cause the Silence just have to stay out of sight.)

For whatever reason, I wanted to look at the reviews for HDM on amazon. Mostly, I wanted to see the 1 star reviews. (It's hilarious doing this for say humor like Hitchhiker's Guide and reading reviews that just go 'but what does 42 mean?')

But I think they may be too spoilery for me to really explore.

Because I'm curious, can anyone who can't get/doesn't care about getting spoiled for HDM judge roughly how many of those negative reviews are about 'pushing an agenda' or something along those lines
