God, the quote from Aang at the end breaks my heart every damn time. Zuko is my favorite character, and this episode is definitely one of the reasons why, but that one line says so, so much about Aang. He is just a good person--totally gentle and kind. And then being the Avatar foists so much responsibility on him, and the need for him to make tough decisions in order to do his duty, and at the same time there is this violence within him that he doesn't understand and often can't control. That one line really points to some of what Aang has lost not only due to him running away from his responsibilities but having those responsibilities dumped on him in the first place. (Not to mention reminding everyone that there was a time when the Fire Nation wasn't a hated enemy of everyone else in the world--the question being, can the world ever get back to that state?)
(Season 2 spoilers here :) The episode I was thinking of in particular is the season 2 finale where Aang trains with the guru, and it's made explicitly clear the sacrifices that are expected of the Avatar, and Aang's inability (or refusal) to make those sacrifices at that time.
