djinn Plays the Backlog

Back from holiday. I played through Metroid Dread! It was the best!

I've heard so many great things about that game!
Halloween Plans?

Just curious to hear what you all are up to this weekend!

As for me, the only thing I have planned is playing some Phasmophobia tomorrow night, maybe a couple more sessions during the weekend. (If you haven't heard of or played Phasmophobia, SUPER fun game to play with friends that provides some excellent spooks. Plenty of Youtube gameplay videos out there if you wanna sneak a peak)

Besides that, watching a horror movie tonight with my horror movie discord friends, probably play some more FF14 (still working on e12s with the raid group, but we saw advanced relativity so hopefully not too much longer before we clear and start farming).
I'm gonna be writing, playing the Age of Calamity DLC, and continuing to work on my Animal Crossing island (which means doing in-game Halloween stuff)!
Not much from my end. Watching spooky movies ("Three From Hell" is next on my list and I just finished "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark"), reading a spooky book ("starting "Into the Drowning Deep"), and watching spooky LPs (currently enjoying an LP of "Inscryption").

That sounds like a lot, but nothing outgoing or partying or anything heeh.

FF Type-0 - Part 77: The Keziah Diversion [Unspoiled]

Summary: Continuing chapter 3. Matchmaking in Mi-Go. My second expert trial. Kazusa and Emina progress.

---

Five Thoughts/Questions

1) There are some tasks which I apparently didn't do previously that the expert trials seem to unlock, even in cities I was able to access in the first game. Is that the case? Did these non-expert tasks only open as a result of the expert trial completion?

2) One of my core goals in the next arena session is to build comfort on the characters I'm not comfortable at all with. I don't have to master a character to enjoy it at a base level, but I do have to be okay doing some basic stuff. Characters I don't feel that comfort with yet:

-Cater
-Cinque
-Sice
-Seven
-Eight

3) I used my first Auric Hourglass. What a cool item! I want to be careful about overusing it, but in case I do, is there a way to farm them, or is there a limited number that you can get?

4) I really thought I'd have finished this section of the Kazusa storyline. In this specific playthrough, I unlocked all seven cutscenes. Do I have to go through here with every Class Zero member to progress his quest, even if it's bringing up repeated cutscenes?

5) One of the gifts I need for Emina is from Toguagh. Was I able to get that even this section of the chapter via the airship, or has that area been story-locked to me?
FF Type-0 - Part 78: Quick Draw McGraw [Unspoiled]

Summary: Finally - FINALLY - I find success with finishing magic. Progressing through the next chapter 3 mission.

Five Thoughts/Questions

1) What a session. What a relief! Something about all my past failures and how I read the Wiki this time and all your past advice and EVERYTHING just came together, and now I finally understand the gist of quick draw/finishing magic/whatever.

Thanks, FF wiki! https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Quick_Draw_(...

2) ....IS THIS WHAT A COMBO BREAKER IS??? I'd heard the term in joking memes about "c-c-c-c-c-c-combo breaker," but is this what it is? A fighting game thing that gives you a special move by breaking one of your combos?

3) I've been practicing with some of my least-played characters. Seven? Love that spiral whip move. Eight? Easy to exploit killsights and powerful in close range. Sice? That scythe combo is nice. Glad I'm expanding my reach.

4) BUT CINQUE. HALP. What do I do to make Cinque good?? Or is she only good in the really specific situation where a super slow enemy gives you all the time in the world to charge up a big whomping attack?

5) At the end of the "Infiltration in Iscah" mission, there was a red SO to find "the weakness" in the final colossus boss. I hit it in both a breaksight and a killsight, but the SO didn't complete still. What did this SO want?

[later edit] OH WAIT, did it want me to use lightning magic, since mechs are weak against lightning? That's probably it.
FF Type-0 - Part 79: Clash in the Caverns [Unspoiled]

Summary: A titanic weapon upgrade for Rem. Expert trial in Rokol Caverns. Cementing my role as lord and master of quick draw.

Five Thoughts/Questions

1) What was up with the Lorican panty thief in Akademia? There aren't many Loricans there other than Ryid. Maybe that'll come up in his questline. But I doubt it. He REALLY doesn't seem like the panty-thieving type.

2) The Dracobaltians sound like a major group of dunkuses.

3) I'm choosing to stop re-trying for Kazusa scenes. Is that correct, or will I regret that down the line? Everything I've seen makes it seem like as long as I unlocked all the scenes, it'll be a waste to keep redoing things.

4) At 21:07, I was really confused why I didn't get credit for completing the SO to kill the supersoldier. In hindsight, one of the other party members must've hit him an instant before I did to steal the killsight.

5) I can't get over just how wild an upgrade the 200 killsight daggers are for Rem. I may try to get those killsights on more characters.
FF Type-0 - Part 80: Expelling the Empire [Unspoiled]

Summary: The next chapter 3 expert trial. Short-term plans around Type-0 and what comes next.

Four Thoughts/Questions

1) I did a bit of weapon grinding to reach 200 killsights on a few characters, but that's going to be it. I don't want to put in the work to grind all weapons up (let alone the gil to buy the weapons).

2) Speaking of which, I'm going to make a more aggressive push through the remainder of this second playthrough. When Endwalker comes I'll want to devote my FF time there, so onwards to see the remaining exalted trials and missed storylines/tasks we go... as long as they don't require too much grinding XD

3) This also means I likely won't end up doing any superboss stuff like (I expect) Agito Tower to be. I'm okay with that.

4) Those pistol-shooter bosses are SO TOUGH! Every shot of theirs is devastating.
FF Type-0 - Part 81: A Fog-Laden Foray [Unspoiled]

Summary: Dealing with Emina cutscenes. The special Code Crimson mission in chapter 3.

---

Five Thoughts/Questions

1) Most white-type phantoma seems like straight vendor-fodder, at least at the early levels. Is that true? Should I feel free to sell most of that stuff if it says it can't be used to enhance magic?

2) Why would you EVER name your base "Limbo Stronghold?" Not setting yourself up for success there, Milites.

3) Time will tell if I ever feel comfortable or good about the Emina quests. Signs point to no.

4) I absolutely love the concept behind these second ways to do various missions! Nice way to add replayability... though part of me does wish they had said "screw replayability" and just made it part of the initial campaign as well.

By "a small part," I mean "i really wish they had just done that instead."

5) The "Locate Another Base" portion of this mission - "A Fog-Laden Foray" - confused me at the outset. Was there anything special I was supposed to do at the start of the mission, when i was in the mech collecting fuel before entering the town?

Like... there HAD to have been secrets in the woods I missed that the game's fuel counter was trying to give me the chance to discover, right?
