Rewatching Pushing Daisies in preparation for Mark's viewing got me in the mood for more Bryan Fuller, and then I remembered he has a new show out, which people here have been raving about. So, here goes.

Now that everyone's had a little bit of time to get familiar with the Hugo Voter Packet, I thought we should have a place to talk about what we're reading and what we think! And our general game plan and voting preferences and whatever, you know.
I think a good spoiler rule would be plaintext for general blurb-y stuff and feelings (because we want to know whether something in the packet is worth reading or not) and rot13 for more detailed thoughts. Also, we all know the nominees for The Big One, but, otherwise, it might be helpful to mention if you're talking about a novella/novelette/fanzine/whatever.
Can we get this thread on the front page every week? Thanks!

So I started hearing about this show more and more as it went on, and when I found out what it was about, I became really interested, and apparently it's really good, and it's only ten episodes, so I'm going to do one episode a week. Summer show!
WHAT I KNOW
—It's about pybarf.
—Tatiana Maslany is n srznyr Raire Twbxnw.
That's basically it. I think I know scattered other things because it was hard to avoid all comments about it, but I am pretty damn unprepared.
Also, pybarf sounds disgusting.
Current Progress: Episode 1.

Everything I know about Lost, in the interest of full disclosure.
1. They are shipwrecked (airplane wrecked) on an island.
2. Weird shit happens.
3. Maybe something with smoke or a monster made of smoke?
4. A LOT of people really like the show.
5. It has some really attractive people in it.
6. I think the ending pissed some people off? I vaguely remember someone ranting about how it ended. This was years ago, and I'm pretty sure I tuned them out. I could be totally mistaken, and Lost could end with hugs and puppies.
I am so unprepared, like Mark levels of unprepared.
Wish me luck.

I'm excited, but it's going to be super busy. My company is hosting a huge even this week and I'm the project manager on it, so I'll be something of a chicken with no head!
However, I haven't been to DC in years! Obviously I am flying out at the crack of dawn, so I actually have most of Sunday to myself, which will be nice!

So, yesterday, my Dad and I had a few hours to kill, and we decided to watch a movie. Specifically, something called "All of History In Only 2 Hours". It was a pretty good documentary, all things considered, though it was kind of a retread for me. We had just bought it recently, so we figured it would be easy to find...
...it took nearly half-an-hour to find it. You see, we keep all our movies in these grey, identical DVD folders. Not only are they indistinguishable, they are completely disordered. Copies of the same movie were in different folders; there was no sortment by name, year or genre. An example of how disorganized it was; Schindler's List was between Twenty-Seven Dresses and Vampires Suck.
So I'm rearranging them. I've already worked at it for about three hours, and I've got about half the movies back into their places. I'm doing it by genre, specifically; Action, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, War Movie, Period Piece/Historical, Documentary, Comedy, Musicals, Rom-Com, Teen Movie, Live-Action Children, Animation, Drama, Classics and Bad Adaptations (because I couldn't bear to put things like The Last Airbender next to Lord of the Rings).
Drama is right now the biggest section, since its kind of a catch all, closely followed by "Live-Action Children" for some baffling reason. I've also sorted animation by Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks and Other. I've also played with the idea of subdividing movies by good-and-bad, but I haven't watched enough of them to be an accurate judge.
I've discovered we have major faults in our movie collection. For example, we have 3 copies of "Gnomeo and Juliet" but no "ParaNorman" or "Wreck-It Ralph". (My parents definitely fall into the idea of the Animation Age Ghetto, meaning they are oblivious to which animated films are actually good. I also have yet to convince them to properly sit down and watch some of the good animated series, despite being sure I know a few they'd adore.)
...so, yeah. That's my contribution to condensing the comments.

Just played through the entire trilogy, over about six months, and I want to talk about it. Plaintext spoilers in reply.

(Also I wasn't drinking much - I feel like if I had been drinking the whole thing would have been funny as opposed to depressing.)

So I'm visiting Pica again and I'm typing this from her place! We're having a grand time. I really like hanging out with a friend---drinking tea, talking fanfiction, watching Willow, playing games. Awesome after a week of being sick and watching my team fall apart.
Thus far the teas we've drank include:
- Apple Cinnamon Coffeecake (Simpson & Vail). Wonderful, and also I thought it went well with the Apple Spice Cake. I got a taste of butter in my mouth, which is awesome because it's been a long time since I've had butter.
- Iced black cranberry tea. Very, very good iced.
- Gingerbread Black (Simpson & Vail). Tastes pretty much of gingerbread, and the black tea plays well into the foreground and background of the taste. Sipping it right now, in fact.
I had a bit of Coconut Macaroon Green Rooibos (Simpson & Vail) last night as well.
Games we played so far include:
- Survive! Escape from Atlantis. This is a bit of a mean survival-of-the-fittest game where you're trying to get your most valuable people off of a sinking island. As terrain tiles are taken away from the island (often as the opposing player unceremoniously dumps your explorers into the waters), sharks and whales start to infest the seas (which are already infested with sea serpents). You can attempt to get on boats and sail for safety... as long as whales don't capsize the boat and sharks and serpents don't eat you. We played two games and it was awesome.
- Jaipur. You are a merchant trading and selling goods to the marketplace. As goods are sold, their value starts to go down---but the more goods of one type you sell, the better your bonus tile will be. It's a balancing act between waiting to gather up to a full five card set for the best bonus, and selling things straight away to get the best value for your goods. A two-player game over 2 out of 3 rounds, it was awesome!
We talked about Harry Potter fanfiction, then we watched a pseudo-documentary (part of it) about "The Ruttles", a play on "The Beatles". Then we watched the first episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica because Pica had never seen it, and then Willow because I'd never seen it. I quite liked Willow.
We ate fried Halloumi and it was awesome, except for the part where I got sick. :( I don't know why I got sick; it's supposed to be purely sheep's milk, this Halloumi, but it was as if there were cow's milk in it. I've been eating sheep and goat cheese for some time now, so my reaction to Halloumi was rather surprising. :(
Right now Pica is working on correcting and extending a Tortall timeline, and it is awesome. :)
