Thursday should prove...interesting. As far as I can tell, that's the episode where reaction to Korra becomes rather divided, and I know Arctic Hare is certainly not a fan of it...

Personally, I think I'm gonna be waiting until Mark's finished Book 1 before I express my feelings on it.

So thanks to Netflix, I've been doing a massive X-files rewatch, all episodes, in order, even the ones that make me go "do I HAVE to?". I just finished season 1.

Mostly I've been playing a huge game of Hey! Its that Guy! Winners so far: First off, Željko Ivanek as Roland in the episode of the same name. He was Juliet's ex husband on Lost (the one who got hit by a bus, and the guy in House season 5 who took the clinic hostage. Second tier goes to Andrea Libman, the little girl in Born Again, is now a prominent voice actress. She voiced Emmy in Dragon Tales and currently Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy in My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.

Nancy Reads Howl's Moving Castle!

I've finally started on this, and omgexcite! It feels like it's been a long time coming.

Anyway, here's what I know about the book, going in:
-It's by Diana Wynne Jones.
-It's pretty short, compared to the other things I'm reading.
-It has 21 chapters.
-There's a movie based on it, but it strays rather from this.
-There's someone named Howl? With a castle that moves?
-Yeah, that's it.

Feel free to read along or laugh at me not knowing anything or, well, whatever. :)

I have a favor to ask, folks. I have a 21 hour plane trip in a few days and need entertainment so I'm not completely bored. Air India's movie selections can be...somewhat lacking in selection. Any movies, books, TV shows, or other distractions you recommend?

I've looked at Mark's lists, but they're kinda intimidatingly long. (On that note--Mark is my hero for committing to read/watch all of that. SO MANY AWESOME THINGS.)

Anyone watching the closing ceremony at the moment?

I'm already trying not to cry because ELBOW and this song tends to make me cry like a baby at the best of times.

So I do the HeartWalk every year because my grandfather died due to complications with his various heart attacks and bypass surgeries, meaning I'm certainly at risk, and so is my dad. If anybody has a couple of bucks they can part with (and believe me - I know money is tight for most people) and feel like sponsoring a good/hilarious cause (I'm going to try running part of it this year - that's the hilarious part), here is my personal link. I promise pictures and/or heart shaped cookies to donors, if I can get my mixer running again. And I make good heart-shaped cookies, see here:

Okay, I'm trying this tumblr thing again after a six-month hiatus, but with a new tumblr. So it has pretty much nothing on it so far. But if you are so inclined, please give me your urls so I can follow people!

Aaaand I've just spent the last two hours on tumblr so this whole "in moderation" thing is obviously not happening.

Arctic_Hare Reads Deadline, part two in the Newsflesh trilogy that you all need to read either ahead of or along with Mark when he starts it after Good Omens if you haven't already. Seriously. It fucking rocks.

Plaintext in reply to this, and I welcome any and all nunning in rot13 at me that I can and will go back and read. I actually enjoy it in a weird way! I LOVE BEING UNPREPARED.

Rejoice, o Doctor Who fans!

Matt Smith is staying for two more years - until 2014! :D :D :D

Which means he'll be in the role longer than David Tennant (David had 3 full series plus specials, Matt will have 4 full series plus whatever they're preparing for the 50th Anniversary).

In other news, I'm revising one of my stories from a couple years ago, and I found LEMON CAKES in it! I don't even remember putting them there. Stealthy lemon cakes! (It turns out I also referenced S. Morgenstern in the same fic. Help me!)

Doctor Who stuff:

A friend of mine attended a special screening of the first episode of Series 7 in London. He said that there's a HUGE twist in it, so big that it will probably hit internet and newspapers by tomorrow morning, even though Moffat pleaded with people not to spoil things.

So I'm just passing the word on - any of you guys who wish to remain spoiler-free might want to avoid various DW sites, TV news sites, and forums, just in case... I believe the episode should air on 25th August, which is less than two weeks away, so it's not a long wait.

Has anyone here read Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children? I finished it today, and it occurred to me that it would be a weird novel to categorize. Wikipedia lists it as a "children's book", and it does have a very children's fantasy structure. It also has some language that would raise eyebrows in a children's book, but not in a YA book, as well as plenty of WWII references. Some of the gothic elements are pretty grotesque, but I can see some kids loving them. And beyond the children's/YA discussion, I actually found it in the regular fiction section.
