I'm torn between being sad that BSG is almost over and being kind of glad, an episode a day of the most depressing show ever is starting to get to me.

Huh, well, Mark got back to me on the forums re: if Sandman is still coming after LOTR and if he's going to do Cowboy Bebop and Buffy concurrently:

"1) I haven't 100% decided what comes after LotR, but Sandman seems like a damn good choice.

2) Still not sure, to be honest. oh god i want to watch Cowboy Bebop NOW."

omg want Sandman now cannot wait SO EXCITE

omg cannot wait for Bebop either SO EXCITE

So, apparently Ian McKellen and Bret McKenzie are thinking of doing a Hobbit musical. To which I say this:

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but here are four more Doctor Who mini-episodes. :D

Also, after watching the Hunger Games trailer last week, I ended up finally reading the series. I love it so much. *___________*

OK, I'm still a little angry but someone over on the A Dance with Dragons post accused Mark of being sexist. Because he disliked Cersei's punishment. Which just...what? I replied but I don't even know if my comment makes sense because the comment just made me rage. Urgh.

Also, what the fuck does he mean "one of THOSE sites"?

Uh, for people not morally opposed to it, I looked for Looking for Alaska online and I found it pretty easily. Anyone want a download link? Or I can send it via email (my email's in my ID profile). Mobi, pdf, epub, lit. I checked the mobi and pdf and they look good; didn't check the epub or lit but I assume they'll work.

And I'm too lazy to jump in on the large thread, but I did read it and I am sad at the lack of LotR too. I've been listening to the soundtracks, and they're so great and I just really really want to get started.

You guys remember on the old forum, there was an "Ask Mark" place, right? I think we should have something like that again, a place where Mark-specific questions can go since he obviously doesn't read all of the comments. That way we can avoid twenty different messages of "you're watching the extended version of 4x12, right? right??" and "which version of this are you liveblogging?" and "how will you be breaking up Looking for Alaska?" and we could just have the answers in one place.

But then again I also think Mark should give us more of a heads-up on the schedule beforehand, so people have time to find the damn book or DVD or whatever. I know he wants it to be a surprise, but it's still a surprise if you announce it a bit earlier, it just gives people time to prepare. I don't even know if he's read any of the many comments we've been leaving about this at Mark Reads, which is another reason an Ask Mark place would be good. One that he actually checks regularly and reads all of the messages for.

I go away for a weekend and come back and Mark's not doing LotR? I carted that book all the way across the country and back so I could read one single chapter and not fall behind. And now he's reading Looking for Alaska instead? What? Why can't he just stick to schedules he comes up with and keep his promises?

I know it's his site and he can do whatever the hell he wants. But this is really, really annoying.

I'm also going to find it really hard to talk about Looking for Alaska without constantly comparing it to A Separate Peace, which is far better in my opinion. So maybe i just won't comment in silent protest.

Does anyone know what he's actually supposed to start FotR?

If he does the same thing to Buffy I'm really gonna be upset.

Okay, this is really pissing me off now. Mark's latest post seems to say that we shouldn't be surprised that he's doing a surprise book. What? I don't even get this. Maybe he mentioned something about wanting to read Looking for Alaska soon on his tumblr or something, but he sure as hell didn't say anything about it on the actual site. Does anyone know his email address? I want to talk to him directly about this. Would anyone be interested in helping me write a letter that a bunch of us can co-sign or something?

Hello! Um. I've never posted here before, but I've lurked here briefly (since the Away post of doom) and at the main sites for a long time, at least before The Hobbit. I just wanted to join in the mopey sad times of no LotR. I had to work a big art fair this weekend and it was like Mark Reads nirvana to think that I could start FotR after I was all done and exhausted and didn't have to do any more prep work for a few weeks. And then no. I'll just re-read some Terry Pratchett and be sad. *mope mope mope*

I love the Greens' philanthropic tendencies, their attitudes and their philosophies, and I consider myself a nerdfighter, but I've tried to read LfA and Paper Towns and couldn't finish either. John Green has a thing for Manic Pixie Dream Girls, which I just don't care for, deconstructed or otherwise. I share zero traits in common with the standard MPDG, and the last thing I'm interested in reading are a bunch of books from male POVs about how much they're in love with an MPDG. It makes me feel erased, or like my experience of teenagehood wasn't self-destructive enough to be interesting or attractive, because only self-destructive, impulsive people are "full of life". I mean, I'm pretty sure John Green wouldn't actually think that, but still, ugh. I would rather read the sausagefest that is LotR, where I feel comfortably represented in characters like Sam and Faramir, than read about any more boys in love Bottle Fairies or Manic Pixies. (Sorry, TV Tropes has, indeed, ruined my vocabulary.)

Anyway. Brief rant over. I just didn't want to go get my rant on in the main site where there are a fair number of people prepared to enjoy LfA, or at least give it a fair shot, including Mark. Plus the main reason I feel rant-y is disappointment, but I don't want to go acting like Mark owes me anything in his own public space. :/ But NOOOOO, people over there who keep saying he should do more one-offs between LotR volumes, NO STOP SAYING THAT, DON'T LISTEN TO THEM MARK, FFS I'M PRETTY SURE ASOIAF BEAT LOTR'S ENTIRE PAGE COUNT BY HALFWAY THROUGH BOOK 2, IT'S NOT THAT BLOODY LONG. T_T

All this kerfuffle over Mark possibly not being enthused about reading LOTR plus the business with some of us here not liking The Eyre Affair has me wondering if Mark will ever again outright dislike something he reads/watches. He seemed to not like The Hobbit too much at first, but later warmed to it more, and on the whole it's been a parade of like/love ever since he did Harry Potter. (With the exception of My Immortal, but that was a special case.) I know we all worry about him not liking something we love, but it's actually been a while since he disliked a whole book/show as opposed to just a chapter or episode. I'm especially curious about the aforementioned Eyre Affair and what he'll make of it, if his opinion will reflect ours or if he'll love it as much as the people recommending it do.

I'm not talking about something like The Host where he goes in expecting to torture himself, btw - stuff that people thought he'd enjoy but he doesn't end up liking. I don't think that's really happened yet.

....I think we all need cheering up. I hate seeing my community so sad. :(

Thus: In honour of an (early) 48th Year Aniiversiary, online geek celebrity Linkara tries to make sense of Doctor Who's rather wibbly form of time travel.

I'm on vacation, and had about 8 hours to read yesterday, and I got through book 1 of LotR (half of Fellowship, in other words). (Barring most of the songs and most of everything with Tom Bombadil,) I was just thinking that damn, this is just a really cool story and while a part of me's glad to have extra time to get into LotR now in case I won't have time later while Mark's reviewing it, I still can't help feeling totally unfair resentment towards Looking For Alaska for simply being the book that's delaying LotR. Haven't even read it, so I'm just building a grudge against a book I basically know nothing about other than what y'all were talking about with Manic Pixie Dream Girls. It's entirely unfair, but...they're at Rivendell and Gandalf's back and Sam is shyly holding Frodo's hand and I got distracted from reading but I know the Council's right around the corner and Fellowship! The Fellowship!

So, I'm wondering: has everyone here watched Avatar The Abridged Series? Because if not, this must be rectified immediately

"Hopeful optimism!"
"Saaarrrcccasstic skepticism!"
"Yeaah....I'm gonna have to ask you guys to stop doing that.
Just re-watched the Samurai Champloo episode with gur gernfher-uhagvat mbzovrf and I totally have the heebie jeebies now. When will I learn to not watch creepy things at 3 am?!

Rewatched the first episode of Buffy and I'm fairly certain Angel isn't named in this ep, so I'm excited to simply refer to him as Buffy's stalker and the like. (I'm hoping Mark doesn't refer to him as Angel in his review, which I know may be a possibility.)

uuuuuuuuuuuuuugh

I thought I was starting to calm down about this, but I saw a promo for Encore's LOTR marathon this weekend (narrated by Billy Boyd's lovely Scottish accent) and it oh so helpfully pointed out something that had so far managed somehow to not register:

MARK IS MISSING THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOVIES WITH THIS DELAY AAAAAAAAAAAARGH

thus I am having a nerdrage relapse over here.

(seriously, why is he not reading these already? :'( )
