Suggestions

As the title says this is the Suggestions page. If you have any ideas, requests or fun suggestions for Mark Spoils post them here.

In future the Sunday Summary post will be the weekly post where separate discussions will be set up for Watches and Reads and people will be free to set up their own off topic threads. Basically the ‘Away From Home’ post but with less pages. (Many thanks to echinodermata for the suggestion)

Go forth and tell me what to do!

If we are gonna do spoilers for all different things in a single weekly thread, is it possible to persuade ID to collapse threads by default even on posts with few comments? I got inadvertently spoilered for American Gods yesterday :(

I'm sorry you got spoiled. There's no way to have threads collapse by default as it's an automatic setting that it collapses after a certain amount of comments. However I've lowered the number of comments per page which means it should take less comments for the threads to collapse. I'm not sure how much it'll help but it seems to be the best I can do with what Intense Debate offer.
(I could set it lower again one more time but I just want to see how it works out and the effect it has on the page first for a day or two and then I'll try out the lowest setting for a day or two and see which works better.)

Setting the number to "1" would presumably make it collapse all the time, if that's permitted by ID. But I'm fine with experimenting a bit and seeing how it goes. I was a bit cavalier yesterday in what I was looking at anyway... reading along with Mark on a book I've never read before is a new experience and I'm still getting the hang of it. Even if it had collapsed, I might have clicked it... I am probably best off just staying away from the spoiler posts entirely when Mark is covering something I haven't seen/read myself, I think.

The only numbers you can choose from in ID are 10, 25, 50 and 100. It was on 100 so I've lowered it down to 25, which seems to have done the job for the number of comments we have right now in the weekly summary post. I'll see how it works with a setting of 10 in a few days time.

I understand the temptation. I'm a generally a complete spoilerphobe but sometime you can't help but want to click and see.

A couple of random suggestions:

Maybe there could be a sort of about page, linked from the sidebar or something, with a little bit of a description/explanation (like saying that it's not a Mark-run site, but we're here for Mark-related fun or something) or something. Basically to avoid the confusion from the other week on Twitter.

Also, maybe a link to this very suggestions post, in case some one comes up with a brilliant idea. Unless you'd rather use the weekly posts for everything.

As I said, random suggestions.

Will do next week. I've been planning to clarify the spoiler policy here and link it in the side bar but I've been really busy lately but I've two days off in a row next week so I should have the time. I'll make it into a general all you need to know about the site post and link in the suggestions page.
