AtLA 30 Day Meme: Day Six - Favorite Element Nation

What is your Favorite Element Nation?

Spoilers will be below.

For me, it's gotta be the Water Nation. Not only does it have the North and South Poles, but the Water Nation also seems to have several settlements scattered throughout the world such as the Swamp People. As far as cultural diversity goes it also seems to be the most complex especially since they have settlements that are located so far apart from each other.

So what about you? What is your favorite elemental Nation?

I think we refer to them as collections of Water Tribes, not "the Water Nation".

I like the Earth Kingdom best! Lots of land, lots of diversity in villages. And the best metropolis: Ba Sing Se.

The Earth Kingdom for me. It's the most diverse, plus has awesome cities like Omashu and Ba Sing Se.

I'm actually not reading the Doctor Who posts yet (I'm watching the show from its beginnings and am only on Season 15), because I'm worried about spoilers. But I'll guess I'll see what happened on his Watches post today.

Fire Nation all the way. I wouldn't launch a war against the other nations of the world BUT I do love their imperialistic ideals from a watching-a-cartoon-show-and-studying-the-cultures-portrayed way. I love the grandeur of it all, the way everything glistens, the way the Royalty is revered and honored, almost godlike, and the way society is very hierarchical. I love studying styles and titles and the inner workings of a Royal Court so that all appeals to me. I love studying and learning about the build up of Nazi Germany and just what lead to it, and in a way the Fire Nation has a very similiar appeal.
I love their element as well, how it can be both a raging inferno and yet calm and sensible which we see Uncle Iroh portray more than once.

Air Nomads!

I'm fascinated by nomadic cultures. I love that their temples allow them to be somewhat detached and focused on spiritual goals while being nomadic allows them to stay in touch with the rest of the world. I love their deep connection with animals. And, I mean, they have sky bisons and flying lemurs! Their temples are gorgeous, too.

Also, they apparently had pretty good senses of humor!

Air Nomads for the win totally. Those guys looked like a blast. I also dug their live and let live nature, plus they have sky bisons. I want a sky bison. Plus they can fly on their own if they don't have a bison. Also: flying lemurs. I like the Water Benders sure, but that place would be way too cold for my taste.

See, I think that if I lived in the Avatar world, I would be a waterbender. I love the way waterbending is portrayed on screen, I like the characteristics that are associated with it, and I'm a lot like Katara, personality-wise, so I would love to also have her badassery in bending. But despite their imperialism, I'm very drawn to the Fire Nation. They seem to have an interesting, well-developed culture, and they don't seem to be openly sexist, unlike the Water Tribes. So I would be a waterbender but I think the Fire Nation is the most fascinating.

Fire Nation. Simply because I enjoy all their characters the most, from the evil to the morally neutral to the eventually good. I love the deeply fucked up relationships between the Fire Nation Royals, I love the dragons, I love the Agni Kais (mostly for shallow reasons, I'll admit), and I love the flashiness of their bending. I love the fact that Sozin's plan was basically Step 1: KILL MILLIONS, Step 2:??????, Step 3: UTOPIA. I love reading fic about them. I have a massive thing for golden eyes. I love their gender equality and steampunk war machines.

In short, the Fire Nation are definetly my favs, hands down.

This is a tough one! I'd probably be a waterbender if I lived in that world, it's the element I'd feel most at home with and in touch with, since I adore water. But fuck the sexist bullshit in their culture. :( I also like that the Fire Nation has an interesting and non-sexist culture, but ew imperialism. Earth Nation is pretty awesome, though. And I feel really drawn to the Air Nomads, too: I love their temples, their general lifestyle, and their respect for all life. I'm a vegetarian like Aang, so I really appreciate that aspect of their culture. PLUS I JUST WANT MY OWN APPA, OKAY? Also air would be my second choice for what I'd like to bend, so I guess in the end I'm going with the Air Nomads.

Spoilers through late S2

Earth Kingdom! Firstly, earthbending is my favorite of the four, so I'm biased in that way. But let's be honest, we also seem to see more of the Earth Kingdom than any other nation. So we get to see a lot of cool Earth Kingdom characters, and Toph is my favorite character btw, and we get to see a lot of cultural diversity in the kingdom too. We see the steampunk aspect up in the Air Temple, then we see Ba Sing Se, and we get government conspiracies whoo! Just, lots of stuff going on in the Earth Kingdom. And lots of different kind of people.

The Fire Nation. I'm completely fascinated with their culture and the effect that their industrialization and imperialism has had upon the way things are run. I love seeing how things work there. It's also a ridiculously pretty volcanic islands nation.

Plus I just love so many Fire Nation characters.
