The Great 30-Day Who MEME!!!! - Day Twenty-nine

What is your favorite music/song from Doctor Who?

I'm a big fan of techno and I love remixes so it's no wonder that one of my favorite websites is whomix, a site dedicated to Doctor Who remixing. So today, instead of picking a song from canon Who that I enjoy, here's one of my favorite remixes from the site! Unreal Who (I am a Time Lord) by Miguel F Ettema.

So what about you? What song or music do you like from Doctor Who or the fandom?

Tomorrow: LAST DAY!!!! /sob Why do YOU love Doctor Who?

Sorry, wrong fandom. But worth a mention.

I'm unfortunately one of those people who never fail to under-appreciate the music. But I remember during the Turn Left blog, someone posted a link to the song where Donna was about to be sent back in time to stop herself from Turning Right (A Dazzling End I beleive) and it was a great sort of transition from eerie to heroic and I really enjoyed it. Dunno how to post videos, so LINK HERE:

This was one of the easiest, I knew right from the beginning what my favourite would be. There were two close runners up though:

First, the theme tune. Pretty much any version will do, but Eleven's does have the edge for me. for added awesome, played on the TESLA COIL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdrqdW4Miao

Second: Abigail's Song from A Christmas Carol ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWDheym_74Q ) so incredibly pretty. I'm eagerly awaiting the soundtrack's release on Monday, mostly so that I can get a version of this that doesn't have all the extra sound effects from the episode in it.

So, my favourite piece of music. It's the piece that makes everything EPIC. Driving to the shops? Epic. Walking the dog? Epic. Sitting at my desk? EPIC!

There are a number of Murray Gold's songs from the show that I love: This Is Gallifrey, Vale Dacem, the Eleventh Doctor's awesome theme music (and really pretty much all of the Series Five soundtrack, to be honest -- I've been listening to that a fair amount over the last few weeks, and it's all fabulous), but my favorite is Song of Freedom.

It's just so... joyous and triumphant and lyrical and majestic and just gorgeous. (Also? It's full of choir singing, which makes it even better.) If I ever do anything epic, I definitely want that playing whilst I do it.

I can't tell you how many sadfaces I made when this didn't make the cut into the televised version of last year's Doctor Who at the Proms. IT'S TOO GLORIOUS TO BE A BONUS SONG FOR THE BACKSTAGE SHOW!!

ETA: obligatory link to it on YouTube, above
THIS! IS! SPARTA!

Sorry.

It's a tie for me. "I am the Doctor" and "This is Galifrey." I love them both for their epic levels of epicness. Second place (or... third? WHatever) is "All the Strange, Strange Creatures."

Murray Gold, I am your BITCH.
This really, really should be incredibly hard. I love Murray Gold's work and I can't imagine the show without him. There are so many wonderful songs. It should be a tough choice.

But it's not.

Now this is a really hard one so I am going to shamelessly cheat and pick three of my favourites, in chronological order, from each series/disk. I apologise now for the link spam.

Series 1: The Doctor’s Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBqrv8Ugyxs Clockwork TARDIS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKVrbxM3C0Y Father’s Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckyaoV1PD-8

Series 2: Madame du Pompadour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1sadZktyos The Impossible Planet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYvxt1Bnov4 Doomsday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq-DhjidQxk

Series 3: All the Strange Strange Creatures http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEcij0ARkmU This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idQRiLZukG0 Martha Triumphant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HANl6jQxxQ

Series 4: The Greatest Story Never Told http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAopdYvok7g A Dazzling End http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVjiJA0RUkU The Rueful Fate of Donna Noble http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaRra-6gX-w

Oh, and special mention to this song, which never fails to make me burst into tears when I hear a certain part at the end, no matter how much I swear I won't cry.

And the Blink suite, too.

I think as as season, S3 had the strongest music taken together, but for a single song, "I Am the Doctor". Not even a tough one for me. I utterly adore this song, and it's in a playlist of mine that I consider my 'badass' playlist. I hear this, and I feel like a BAMF.

And just because I can, music from other seasons I love:
S1 - Westminster Bridge and Cassandra's Waltz
S2 - Madame De Pompadour
S3 - Martha's Theme, Just Scarecrows to War, Blink
S4 - A Noble Girl About Town, UNIT Rocks, Song of Freedom

Music from the "4.5" specials I'm least familiar with, so no favorites from here.
S5 - River of Tears and I Remember You, which is basically just River of Tears plus I Am the Doctor, so kind of an obvious choice.

I'm going to echo series 5's "I am the Doctor". So epic, equal parts hopeful and quirky too. Series 5 runners up include a River of Tears which is so creepy and atmospheric, and With Love, Vincent. I don't know why, but I really never took great notice of the music in Doctor Who before series 5. I mean, aside from the "ooo-OOOO-oooo" type vocalizations and the choir singing- I noticed those, but not really the general underlying music. So I'd like to thank you guys, people here and over at Mark's blog have done a lot to point me to the music of earlier series, which is also indeed awesome. i don't know it as well, but that one song in Turn left that goes sort of rock makes me sit up and take notice as well.

PS: I am so incredibly devastated that I will be at work when the Eleventh Hour review goes up! >_> Maybe I'll take my break early today...
I love the Main Theme:

(Not the new arrangenment, I really don't like that one).
I was gonna say all of my favourites, but they've almost all been said! Theme from series 5, I am the Doctor, Vale Decem! So yeah, they are all amazing. (Also, "this is gallifrey, our childhood, our home")
But my absolute favourite (wrong time of year for it, sorry!) The Stowaway from Voyage of the Damned! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoXF6H_venI
and this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95rTEbYUdH0
from the christmas invasion. It's called song for ten on that youtube link, but I don't know if that's the proper name?
Heres a link to This is Gallifrey, because apparently I just really like christmas songs and IT'S MARCH DAMMIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95rTEbYUdH0

Well, here's another person who loves the eleventh doctor's theme. When you hear that theme, you just know something's going to go down. However Abigal's song from the Christmas Carol has really grown on me. I just sort of liked it when I saw it in the episode, but after listening to it over and over I love it. I just love the way Jenkins' voice and the orchestra sounds together.

"I Am The Doctor" is probably my favourite too, but this is most appropriate for today i think:

Such a perfect introduction!
For some reason two youtube videos embedded in one post wouldn't work, so here's one more favourite that I simply can't neglect:

So far I think s3 has been my favourite soundtrack:

Martha's Theme
All the Strange, Strange Creatures
Miss Joan Redfern
Y.A.N.A

I also love all the variations of Amy's Themes and the Doctor's but I found the soundtrack had too many pieces on it. A Dazzling End is epic and probably the best thing on the s4 soundtrack. Madame de Pompadour is sad and beautiful. Can't wait to hear Abigail's Song in full.
I can't stop listening to S5's soundtrack, but one section in particular has grabbed my attention. A River of Tears through to Onwards is amazing. It goes from eerie to tender to triumphant and just perfectly encapsulates the finale and the series.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5nuwvcz50U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzOhu24WNbE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_ZZmqCcdac http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Nd8Ie8-UhE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq_dBvckHWQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEEJV3Ecwps

I've already mentioned how much I love Abigail's Song from A Christmas Carol, but that is tied here for favorite.

S3 is a strong contender, with many awesome pieces mentioned by others already.

&Murray Gold;
It's been mentioned, but I think my favorite is "Vale Decem". I'm a sucker for choral music in Latin. It was the perfect piece for Ten's regeneration, and the lyrics are wonderful (I know enough Latin to get the idea, and I've seen several translations, some of which don't seem to make sense with the Latin version, but whatever).

I'm also very fond of "This is Gallifrey-Our Childhood, Our Home" and the Eleventh Doctor's theme, and "Song for Ten".
My absolute favorite:

I fucking love this song. I have been known to listen on repeat for hours. I wish we could get the full version done by Tim Phillips, because it's this version that I love. Gary Williams' version is nice enough, but... it's just not the same. Also this video makes me happy. I have a ridiculous love for the outfit picking scenes. They all give me such happy feelings of something fresh and new, even when the scene was filmed years and years ago. That probably has a lot to do with why I love this song so much. It reminds me of bb!Ten.

Honorable Mentions:

A Noble Girl About Town because it is THE best companion theme and just so, perfectly Donna, This Is Gallifrey-Our Childhood, Our Home because it is just awesome and all kinds of epic, All the Strange Strange Creatures because it makes me feel like awesome~adventure time. Aaand, Vale Decem. It's depressing as heck, but it's still gorgeous.
So difficult. Doctor Who really has some of the best scores in all of television, so it'll be a tough choice.

Donna's theme, perhaps? Its quirky, its sneaky, and it fits her character so well- and her dynamic with the Doctor.

Maybe the ever popular 'Eleventh Doctor's Theme', which others have already raved about, is pure epic in song form.

I also have to give props away to the actuall songs of Nu-Who; Song For Ten, and "Love Don't Roam". The lyrics are so sweet, and the music so fun- I'd love to see them performed live.
"I've walked across this Earth with just a suitcase in my hand,
I've seen some bug-eyed joes,
I've met the blessed, I've met the damned...."

As for a song from fandom- can I say all of Chamelon Circuit? No. Fine. But definite props need to go to Blink, the Big Bang 2, and of course, Awful Lot of Running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAi4izfvXo4&fe...
I don't know if I can do favourites but "all the strange strange creatures" and "i am the doctor" get stuck in my head constantly.

LOL I'll just pick the Judoon song again.
I am very late, but it is definitely, beyond a shadow of a doubt,"This is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home."

After that, I love pretty much everything, especially "All the Strange, Strange Creatures," "The Sad Man with a Box," and "A Dazzling End." I just love this show's music.
