Quick question for those States side. The clocks went back an hour here last night/this morning so I was wondering if they changed or stayed the same in America? Just wondering so I know what time to expect Mark's reviews this week.

Also OMG my sister's boyfriend got me the best birthday present ever. A working Master's pocket watch! I can't tell you how long I've wanted a Time Lord watch but thought they only made the kids plastic toy versions. I'm already trying to figure out how to attach it to my jeans to use in day to day life.

Happy Halloween everybody! I thought I'd come out of lurkerdom to share my costume with you guys.

I know I don't have the right hair to make a very convincing Amy, but I think my boy makes a great Eleven.

Just seen this on Tumblr, thought I should make sure everyone's seen it:

Can someone help me out. I not rereading the Hobbit alongside Mark and I wanted to post this picture from a LotR calendar, but I can't remember if it is a spoiler or not. The scene is in the Hobbit, and I think it's this chapter, but I'm not sure. Here's the image, titled "Eagles to the Carrock"

So, anybody have any fun Halloween costumes/particularly geeky Halloween shenanigans planned? I dressed up as Mal from Firefly and one of my friends did an admirable job of carving the TARDIS into a pumpkin. It was impressive.

Okay, I'd be wary to talk about this anywhere but here, but you guys are awesome, so that's okay:

Moffat has finally responded to allegations of sexism, apparently only realising it was a common complaint recently. Apparently, the original interview where his first sexist quotes came from (about men being able to go longer without a relationship, whereas women are hunting for husbands) was taken out of context, as he was describing the philosophy of a character on his show Coupling, not himself.

Now, I don't know Coupling, and while he could be telling the truth, he could be lying. I do think he allows for sexist tendencies to come in to Doctor Who, but that people have been exagerrating quite a bit, as well. (This might come from something of my pet peeve of people describing any woman whose romantically or sexually engaged with a guy as 'sexist', although of course there are other influences.)

Here's the article I read: http://www.themarysue.com/stephen-moffat-misogyny...

...thoughts?

OMG, guys, look what I've found. You're going to love this. :D

Mapping Stereotypes

Basically, it's a series of maps (mostly Europe) that depict countries as other countries see them. It pokes fun at all sorts of stereotypes and prejudices, and there are a lot of pretty accurate portrayals. :D
So I'm watching Young Justice even though I'm not really a comics person, and I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a canonical reason why so many aliens are interested in Earth in the DC universe.

Question: Is it spoilery to mention cast names for the Hobbit characters? I put Stephen Fry's name in rot13 in the last chapter's comments (he plays the Master of Laketown), because I wasn't sure, but when Mark gets to the chapter where Smaug is introduced, would it be okay to openly flail and swoon about Benedict Cumberbatch voicing Smaug? :D

So I decided to check out the first book in those Thursday Next books that are on Mark's to-read list.

Look, I wanted to like it, it sounded like such a cool concept and world, but I just felt let down in the end. The cast was kinda so-so, I didn't care at all for the love story and the way it played out, there was this weird habit of switching back and forth between first person and third person, even in the same chapter, and the climax felt odd and kinda rushed. It also didn't help that I was fresh off the Inkheart trilogy, which I felt did the concept of people/characters moving to/from book worlds MUCH better and had a better cast to boot. I dunno, anyone else here read it before? It started out interesting but then I got more and more disappointed as it went on. Which saddened me because it sounded awesome in theory. Oh well.
