Random theory without much thought put into it but I wonder if that strange woman Amy's seen twice now is connected to Schrödinger's baby in some way. At the very least she's being observed/monitored by someone or something.

What did everyone think of Lily Cole as the Siren? I thought she did a good job. When the Siren got angry and turned red she was quite frightening!

Okay, the pacing was weird but aside from that this episode was probably a winner for me no matter what. PIRATES, GUYS, PIRATES WHO BECOME SPACE PIRATES! COULD IT GET ANY MORE AWESOME?

It's up http://markwatches.net/reviews/2011/05/mark-watch... but it looks like people can't talk about the episode in it outside of liveblogging since it went up late.

This was a pretty meh episode for me. I'm not even sure that I can articulate why, maybe that there wasn't very much going on, plus I didn't feel any emotional connection to Pirate Captain and his son. Although I admit, SPACE PIRATES were quite cool at the end. Hope he read the pilot's instruction manual though.

Terrible, awful, no good CPR from Amy. I wanted to shout at her NO WONDER HE ISN'T WAKING UP WHAT ARE YOU DOING HEAD TILD CHIN LIFT AND PINCH HIS DAMN NOSE SHUT.

I also enjoyed the quiet and thoughtful moment at the end with the Doctor fiddling away at the monitor and trying to puzzle out Shroedinger's pregnancy.

Next week looks very promising. Very promising indeed,

Mark just posted his Fringe review, and I'm reading it now, but a thought about Buffy and Angel struck me:
spoilers for BtVS and Angel, and for that matter vague spoilers for the Fringe S3 finale (no plot points, just tone)

Mark said about it: "had this show not been renewed for a fourth season, I believe we would have all witnessed the most mind-melting, frustrating, troll-ish series finale to ever air in history."

I'm just thinking about things like the episode Restless and how much of a mindfuck that was. And Dawn's entrance. And the finale of Angel. If he ever does watch Angel, I'd think he'd get a kick out of its ending, even if he feels sucker-punched about it.

Also, Buffy dying in S5. And then in S6 you think it's Buffy, but it's a robot.

So many plot twists to look forward to. Also, there's parallel universes/dimensions in Angel, and there's some wibbly-wobbly Buffy episodes too. And, you know, feminisms. Really looking forward to Mark watching Buffy.

I feel for this episode as I feel for Vampires of Venice. I liked it. It was fun. It had a good story. It had good plot twists. It worked.

But it's likely going to fade into the background of other Who episodes.

I feel like this was sort of a meh episode. Certainly not bad, with some really great bits (the Doctor wearing a pirate hat, Amy kicking ass with a cutlass and pink tights, the awesome pirate captain dude, the Doctor kissing the TARDIS, Shirtless Rory...) but it felt just a bit flat. I can't really put my finger on why, exactly. The CPR bit was truly awful though; I've only had one Red Cross first aid course and I could tell that it was completely horrible.

I broke my usual rule and watched the preview though, and IT LOOKS COMPLETELY AWESOME.

Thoughts, since I am super late.

1) PIRATE AMY! SWORDING! I LOVE YOU, AMY. <3

2) PIRATES. And creepy cool setting. Yay!

3) I... I wanted the Doctor to keep the pirate hat. That's my favorite so far of the hats he's worn, easily. Because PIRATE HAT, that's why.

4) SPACE PIRATES.

5) The ship within a ship thing is pretty neat.

6) WTF eyepatch lady!?

7) Amy, you fail CPR. Seriously. But I nevertheless got all sad and worried, like "SHOW I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME. DO NOT END LIKE THIS." I chalk it up to Karen and Matt being so good at making me wibbly.

8) Doctor/TARDIS OTP! 8D (I love my crack ships, yessssss.)

9) SPACE. PIRATES. FUCK. YES.

10) OMG OMG OMG NEXT WEEK. AAAAAAAH! I KNEW THAT BADASS LINE OF THE DOCTOR'S FROM THE TRAILER HAD TO BE FROM THAT EPISODE. IT SOUNDED LIKE YOU KNOW WHO WROTE IT. <3 <3 <3 ALSO OOD! I AM BESIDE MYSELF WITH EXCITE.
