Mark Watches 'Sherlock' - The Great Game

Over at 'Watches' the review for 'The Great Game' should be up soon.

Also, it looks like we're going to postpone our Classic Who watching until Saturday the 16th. Mark is going to do a Classic Who review on Monday and I don't want to tread on his toes by potentially doing the same review (as I think he may be doing 'Terror of the Autons.'

Also, also, I don't know quite yet what we'll be doing about series 6, but we will be doing something. Mark is supposed to be doing a liveblog for the new series, but I'll be putting posts up anyway for those lucky British bastards who get to see it first and for those of us that do illegal things to get the episode as soon as it's finished airing over the pond. *cough*

Spoilers (and Sesame Street... I could not resist it) below.

What ever could you be talking about? *whistles* But the spoiler blog lives on!

So, I posted a vid on this blog a couple days ago, and now there's a part 2. This is an official video from the BBC, and is mostly clips from S5 and (what I think is) new interviews with the cast (and Moffat), but there's also a new bit, probably from S6, so spoilers at the end. Or, if you just want to see the new bit, it's already in gif form.

Also, Mark said on tumblr that he's planning on doing one ATLA ep a day, even though they're short.

Mwahaha...er, yes, thank you for that E.L.S.O.S.!

And I'll actually be here for the movie liveblog tomorrow because MY COMPUTER IS FIXED! At last! I've spent most of today reinstalling and updating pretty much everything.

Illegal things? What on earth do you mean???

Anywayyyyyyy... ;)
I spent yesterday evening sort-of-writing a paper and definitely distracting myself searching Youtube for Sherlock/Watson vids...I have made an art of procrastinating!
So here are my faves:

Because there's a Brokeback Mountain trailer for every fandom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw3pBUa7QqI

Sherlock is a Maneater apparently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKzBt_agoys

I died laughing at this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa-yiWWVvIQ

Was it someone here/@Mark's that linked to the erotica that Mark Gatiss wrote? I have never been able to wipe that from my mind and all of these mentions of him with Sherlock have pretty much made me laugh constantly.

More Doctor Who stuff: http://owlsie.livejournal.com/327113.html

Completely unofficial, but what do you guys think of this symbolism/speculation? Is there anything to it? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

Illegal? I never watch illegal videos. Why would you ever insinuate such a thing? ::innocent whistling::
Even though Mark's review today was pretty great and thorough, it really feels like there are few people suitably interested in Sherlock enough to really be inspired to make long comments about it. And I think a lot of that is the format of the show, where there's only 3 episodes, and not a whole lot of overarching mystery (so far).

So I was thinking about what made HP and DW so fun to read the comments for, whereas Book Thief doesn't inspire that many comments, and (from what I've heard) Hunger Games didn't inspire as much replying to other people. And I was thinking which books or shows would be most interesting to see a lot of people talk about. as opposed to the suggestions for what Mark should review.

Unless ATLA brings in a big audience new to Mark, I don't foresee it being as exciting as DW in the comments. I have similar thoughts with BSG. Both are popular shows with strong mythos, but the fandoms they inspire seem to be different from the usual Watches crowd. I feel like ATLA draws in a less meta crowd, and BSG draws in a more male-skewed form of meta (eg more Watsonian and perhaps more philosophical). But I really do believe once Mark gets to Buffy the comments will go back to being a pretty amazing place to hang out in.

I feel like the recipe for awesome comments on Mark's blog is a big source (eg multi-book series/multi-season show) with a big fandom and a lot of mythos (eg not procedural tv) set in a self-contained form (eg tv episodes are better than book chapters), that inspires lots of meta and varying points of view from its audience. Making Buffy a great choice for the blog.

But what other fandoms does anyone think fits this bill? My only other good example would be Lost, but that's really not something that will happen on Mark's blogs. I feel like Supernatural might fit what I'm looking for pretty well, but there's also the trouble of Mark being wary of it already. Perhaps Merlin might work. Any other ideas?

Haha, I'd joked with one of my sisters last night that half my comments on The Great Game would probably be about Moriarty's/Andrew Scott's accent and what do you know it actually turned out to be true.
BBCA now has its own official tumblr page: http://doctorwho.tumblr.com/

"The TARDIS has landed on Tumblr! Announcing Doctor Who on Tumblr where we’ll reblog our favorite fanart, fanposts, animated gifs, and other wibbly wobbly tumblry-wumblry stuff.

So follow The Doctor for all of this plus exclusive first look photos and videos."

It's pretty funny to me when they have to censor the fuckyeah names from other users.
Okay, I have to share this because I am far too amused.

Amazon has Rock Band 3 on sale right now, and I snapped up a copy. One of the fun things about the Rock Band games is creating characters, and I've been playing with this idea for the last several weeks, actually. I haven't actually done any, you know, rock-banding at this point, but I've made four characters so far and put them in a band. Any guesses?

Yeah, I made Rock Band characters out of New!Who companions. :D I started with Donna (my first favorite!), then Martha ('cause she needs more love), then Rose (because she was the first of the new series), and then Amy (she's the most recent?). The band name came courtesy of my brother -- The Blue Box Companions -- and I even made a logo that I kind of love. I still need to make a Rory, of course, but I needed to turn the Xbox off for a bit. Plus, I can only assign four band members, so beyond that is extra. (Though, at this rate, I might have to do a River and a Mickey and a Jack... and then I might want to make some Doctors, 'cause, well... why not, right?)

I need to figure out how to get pictures from the game (even if I have to take pictures of the screen, dag nabbit), because I kind of love them already, and I can't wait to play as them in the game. Just watching the four of them hanging out in the band HQ -- Rose and Donna sitting on the couch, a little awkward; Martha examining the instruments; Amy strutting around a bit -- and in the menu screens was a lot of fun.

Would it be spoilers for me to post my Doctor Hugh shops on the Liveblog thread? I mean, either way I guess I should wait until after Mark gets through the movie, but I'm guessing he hasn't seen Curse of the Fatal Death yet, either. Not that Hugh Grant would be inherently spoilery without context, I suppose?

OKAY this is pretty unrelated to Sherlock, but I'm asking about the Eight Doctor. I want to read his books.

Yes, even the ones that TV Tropes say are made on drugs.

I'm looking for PDF versions if I can find them, and maybe I guess I'll get them from the library if I can't. (Pfff, like an AMERICAN library will have BRITISH books in it. Poor Discworld, I could only find like eight...)
